You Won't Find A Strip Club In UAE But Plenty Of Private Dancers! 

I was reading an old blog post from here http://expatuae.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/sex-and-city.html  and it made me think. I've only been visiting the Middle East for about three years and even in the last year I have seen real changes in the prostitution there. Abu Dhabi AND Dubai are both pretty full to the brim with Working Ladies and something that people who are "not in the know" about "this kind of thing" but who are eager to comment and make judgments need to realise that you can't just label every single Sex provider as being the same as there really are several types of prostitution; not all of which I fully agree with.

It's Not Always About Career Choice you know!

Firstly, may I say that I love the UAE and I've found the Emirate people to be a whole lot of fun and extremely charming people with a touch of  'friendly arrogance'  that I find quite endearing. The place never ceases to amaze me, hence my 12 visits in 2013 and every single one of those trips taught me something new! I don't think that you can visit a country in any capacity and not embrace the culture and beliefs unless you stay in a 5* all inclusive resort and keep your eyes closed! For me, I'd rather stay at home than to go somewhere and not explore off the tourist track! It's about the smells, the climate, the shopping, the food, the transport, the history...

I never get involved in political or religious issues and I certainly don't think that The real Middle East gets a fair deal when it comes to the views of Westerners who haven't been there or spent any time with the real people who live there.

Sex Tourism Is Rising And UAE Is Firmly On The Map!

Prostitution is in every country in the world ladies and gents and the ladies come from all walks of life. There are probably more trafficked women in Europe than in the Middle East but it's certainly safer to work in The UAE than in most of Europe. What people don't realise is that many of the Thai, Philippina and Chinese women are definitely having to sell sex to subsidise their "normal" salary and I know that they work damn hard. Most of these women have no choice but to leave their children at home in their own country, with family while they fly off into the unknown in the hope they can make a better life but many end up in a job with long hours (typically 12 hrs a day on average)and very low pay and no prospects of ever getting a promotion. They usually live in over crowded apartments and rely greatly on each other for support. These workers often live in fear of saying anything out of place as they have no rights in this foreign land so they become extremely subservient to the extreme. I have friends who work in a hotel, they work such long shifts of 12-14 hours with a salary of £220 per month and only one day per week off!!!

This is 2014 for goodness sake!

No wonder some of these women go into prostitution and it's not because they want to lavish themselves with luxury items.....it's because they want to send enough cash home to pay for their children's education, clothing and food and possible save enough money to be able to go home one day and pay for a house and live a better life!

There are also the women who have fled their troubled country knowing that they are heading for the UAE "land Of Opportunity" to prostitute themselves but for these ladies, this option looks far better than the war or the poverty in their own land. These women are the ones at risk of being used and pimped by nasty greedy men who feel powerful by dominating, abusing and owning vulnerable girls and make money off them from doing nothing but making a few calls and driving here and there.

Pimps make me physically sick!!

There are of course lot's of the so called "High Class" agencies, most of which are based in Eastern Europe and they really do have some of the most stunning, young girls I have ever seen. The kind of girls you look at and say "oh my g_d, she could be a model, why on earth is she a hooker?" Then you hear some of the stories about the kind of life these girls have in Russia or The Ukraine and you can kind of see the attraction of such a glamorous life style in the UAE where they are wined, dined and taken to the Malls to shop for designer clothes and shoes and bags and sun glasses ect....driven around in amazing cars and paid rather large sums of cash...

High Class, Low Class, No Class bla bla bla

Many "independent" touring ladies are now visiting The UAE and they come from many other countries around the globe. These are the women who are usually based in their own country but who travel to The Gulf, and probably other places, to work for a period of time and some of whom may visit regularly. These ladies do not have pimps and do not work for any agency. They manage their own accommodation, advertising, travel and client base, plus they are able to work as and when they wish. These women tend to charge a higher fee as they need to cover expenses as well as wishing to attract the more upscale gentleman which helps to ensure safety and discretion with no obvious language barrier. Lot's of men prefer to know that a lady is an "indy" for reasons such as, she is not being exploited or she tends to be very professional and able to understand the need for absolute discretion, ie doesn't turn up at his 5* hotel obviously dressed as a hooker.

Is She Your Fantasy Girl? (yes, I'm giggling loudly)

I've noticed so many more African ladies arriving within the last year to eighteen months and I think this is because word finally got to them that the pick up bar scene is booming in places like the UAE and if a few of them travel together they can share an apartment to make the stay cheaper. These women tend to be in the sports bars within the hotels and are really quite brave in their provocative dresses when they are outside the clubs after closing time looking for that one last punter who may just pay them for an 'over nighter' which will ensure decent money for the girl.

Some of the prostitutes in Dubai are sadly VERY brazen when walking on the streets and many guys have told me that these women are actually grabbing them by the crotch and trying to entice them by physically accosting them! This is not cool and just makes it very dangerous for other working women who are trying to earn a living in a more discrete way. The Authorities will not find this way of soliciting clients acceptable at all and I know that, especially during Ramadan, the police will be making visits and arrests as they usually do.

Brazen May Be Ok For Some Places.....But NOT UAE

Turning a blind eye is all well and good from the authorities but for women coming into a religious country to sell sex and behaving in such an overtly obvious way is just insulting and bad for professional working women.

My final comment is that prostitution will never go from The UAE because the authorities know that it:-
1) Brings in huge revenues for the UAE
2) Ensures that the Muslim women are not sexually harassed (quoted from a government client of mine)
3) Helps the men who are not married, unable to date and need to have an "outlet"
4) Keeps the huge number of manual and low paid workers under control with an "outlet"

I'm sure there are several other reasons and I know you won't all agree with my views alone but Dubai/Abu Dhabi as a working holiday destination are fantastic if you work in a certain way and aren't too greedy.

As a holiday place for Europeans it's an accessible, affordable and amazing place to go and will inspire you and hopefully be quite thought provoking... and as for the prostitution.... you will probably be tucked up in bed and won't notice a thing.
